Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Josh Thompson is now first team physio at Blackburn Rovers. P.s. for transparency, this user account (SfcFPA) will now only be used for news relating to the work of the FPA, or about former players themselves. I've created a new account which I will use to share my own views and non FPA related stuf...

Re: Connor Heath

Connor Woods was released by Skem United's youth setup. Dylan Vassallo by ourselves. Loads from Accrington and such. Judging a player off their youth career is like trying to guess, perfectly, the day the world will end. We didn't release Vassallo. We spotted him playing for sefton school boys with...

Re: An idea to help the club generate money & publicity

I doubt you would find anybody disagree that if we ever expect to increase our attendance beyond the already dedicated group of supporters then we must market the club. I hesitate to add the words "more effectively" to that previous sentence as I am not undermining the efforts that our ver...

Re: Bradford

I'm just surprised we gave up the opportunity presented by two home games during an international break, with the marketing potential that international breaks present to non league teams. We moved the midweek one by choice to a day that Liverpool are also at home. There must be some evidence somewh...

Re: Liverpool Senior Cup

Is the current 'club' not the same, or descended from the same, legal entity? (maybe I should read your book!) No, completely different. Central was a brand new club. New name, new colours, new kit, new committee, new players, new ground. Every contemporary source calls them a "new organisatio...

Re: Liverpool Senior Cup

Well, the original association Southport Football Club (i.e. not us) were actually part of the Liverpool & District FA's formation in 1882. They were one of the 12 clubs invited to meet to discuss its creation. It was chaired by Robert Lythgoe the Bootle secretary who was friends with Thomas Bur...

1881 and all that

In 2018, after the naming of the "1881 Lounge", I wrote an article in support of the change and to shed some light on the 1881 claim as far as I understood it. ...and despite everything that has been proven since...I still like the name! Here's why. https://www.southportfootballclub.co.uk/...

First match on this day 134 years ago

Southport FC's first ever match took place on this day in 1888. In June 1888 Southport Central had been formed after the captains and secretaries of a large number of local amateur clubs met to discuss the creation of a new professional club. Read the reports from these meetings, and of the first ma...

Re: An idea to help the club generate money & publicity

It appears from the accounts that there had been a sizeable shareholding increase of 10,100 between 2020 and 2021. It may not be mega money, but it's a lot to me! A confirmation statement is published by companies House each year of who the shareholders are and how many shares they have. The confirm...

I was a little surprised to hear they had been dropped, but on reflection, I can't remember the last time I listened to them and didn't already know the scores of all of the games I was interested in because I'd been keeping an eye on them all game. Look around the stands on a match day and you see ...
