Re: Senior Cup Marine game

Shame we didn't lose 4-1 in the First Round, we could have done with fewer games. Same sixteen players in a couple of days again in another pointless match? If I was a betting man, which I sometimes am... a crisp £20 note may well be on Gloucester for Saturday, as the bookies won't know our first te...

Re: Pyrotechnics at Marine away tomorrow

I am doubtful volunteer stewards and the Police can prevent all devices entering the ground if people try hard enough. Last season, Liverpool fans let off loads in the FA Cup final; that is at Wembley - with maximum security resources. Volunteer stewards and half arsed Police are not going to detect...

Re: Scarborough Athletic 0-1 Southport - Match Thread

Great support and a satisfying win. I went today and it reminded me how great this club could be. Yellows in the pub before the game and the lads did us proud with a hard fought win. Lots of stay over Sandgrounders very happy. Listened to Liam's interview and he is half right. Any kids costing us mo...

Re: Scarborough Athletic 0-1 Southport - Match Thread

Comfortbale away win, Scarborough created nothing apart from a few long distance shots tippped wide. Defence was completely untroubled. Even at 1-0 we were never 'hanging on' as they had nothing about them. Should have been 2-0, as Heath had a one on one with no one near him and hit the keeper. Man ...

Re: Southport 0-0 Alfreton - Match Thread

If the club goes up for sale, publicly, and there are simply no buyers then fair enough - I will get back in my box. But it's a load of rubbish to argue "there's no queue down Haig Avenue" as nobody currently knows there is anything to queue for. Why would you put something up for sale if...

Re: Southport 0-0 Alfreton - Match Thread

...the time has come, in my opinion, for him to at the very least actively search out external methods of finance. By that, I don't mean having an 'open door' policy, or weakly requesting people already emotionally invested in the Club to come forward with any amount of money they'd be willing to g...

Re: Southport 0-0 Alfreton - Match Thread

One more win sees us on 50 points which is normally enough but the bar may be higher this season as teams down there keep picking up wins. I understand frustrations about the "product" from those still bothering to go, but it hasn't mattered for ages now. Just need to get to the end of thi...

Re: Trust Update

Thanks for the update, just one point of clarity for me - when you say 're-establishing the Trust' does that mean it will be TIY or a new entity?

Re: Management and Coaching

There are arguments for changing the manager but we shouldn't pretend it's without risk. With Liam you know that by hook or crook we will hoof and throw our way to 50 points every season and avoid relegation. I really don't see a Watson team going down because his methods are enough to scrape togeth...

Re: Southport 0-0 Kettering - Match Thread

Could the fanzone be repurposed into a drinks bar on matchday? Even if it's just bottles and soft drinks? It's handily located near the main stand which means it could cater for the seats while the existing stall caters for the terrace? As you get more families in the seats it would do a roaring tra...

Re: Connor Woods

A few months ago I would have been disappointed but I am struggling to summon up much remorse. Connor is a talented lad but he hasn't kicked on. He is no better than he was this time last season, or the season before. His progression has stalled and this feels like a sensible outcome. I do wonder wh...

Re: New signing Joe Adams

Great stuff - how long is he contracted for?

Article doesn't mention this, could be a short term deal to the end of the season or a 'proper' signing until next Summer, can anyone clarify?

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Edward Servuts scored a hat trick for Burscough( two penalties) as Burscough lost 5-4 to a goal in the 95th minute. Morgan Homson -Smith scored twice for Longridge in their 4-2 win Sandbach Utd maintained their playoff push - the connection to Southport is Derek Goulding who is the assistant manage...

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Former centre back Matthew Flynn (played under Alan Wright I think) played in Kendal's 2-2 draw against Litherland REMYCA today.

Decent game. Litherland blew a 2-0 lead and in true scouse fashion lost their rag and had a man sent off for kicking out.

Re: Southport 2-1 Blyth Spartans

That was the second lowest home league attendance in 30 years. On only one occasion has it dropped lower (deluge against Vauxhall in 08/09 that should never have been played) since promotion from the NPL in 1992/23. I didn't attend and don't see me back at Haig Ave until some material changes have t...

Re: Q&A with Ian and Liam

The original attraction of artificial pitches was they replaced grass that would turn into mud during the winter months. Playing on mud is an even worse spectacle than plastic. It's also not very safe and leads to injury. But as pitches have got better and better, most lower league surfaces even in ...

Re: Q&A with Ian and Liam

If you look at where we have finished under Liam, which is 14th, 12th and 11th - he has surpassed where the budget dictates we 'should be' every time. I can whinge for Britain about certain aspects of the style, tactics, squad management, but the bottom line is he has got a relegation budget into mi...

Re: Q&A with Ian and Liam

No articles in local papers, Which local newspapers? I liked the frankness of the Q&A. People have got used to a government that like to just bluster crap through and ignoring the inconvenient truths, it seems they expected Rob, Ian and Liam to do exactly the same. Kudos for managing to crowbar...

Re: Gloucester backer resigning

They have been a touch unlucky in that the season that was expunged due to Covid, they were top of the league and flying. Then never managed to repeat it.

The appointment of Steve King who is the archetypal chequebook manager now looks.... amusing.
