Re: Isle Of Man - friendly
Agreed.
Been crying out for a friendly like this (no disrespect intended but Bamber Bridge isn't really that exciting!)
Whatever the reason for the friendly, this is one hopefully to enjoy - major thanks to everyone at both clubs who got this one sorted.

As I said, it is what it is

Outstanding. Best friendly I've known by a country mile.
Didn't think I would ever get to watch us outside of the UK. Phenomenal.
Booked.
... And their manager is ex Sandgrounder Paul Jones. Played 30 games in 97/98.

Great friendly, but very frustrating it's been put on a weekday. Was their pitch booked out on the Saturday?
Re: Isle Of Man - friendly
That's not correct.
They play Sat evening, so they can stream the games live and avoid the TV blackout.

Technically an 'overseas' friendly (over Irish sea at least)..
Can it count as playing in Europe?....

We play in Europe every week.
It’s certainly overseas, and foreign in the sense that the Isle of Man is not part of the U.K..

We must be nutters to watch SFC.

Its certainly not physically attached to the uk it has its own language and a recently accepted football club to a uk league , definitely not the most distant game we have played but interesting none the less .

It's more foreign than Bamber Bridge away on a Tuesday night, that's for sure.

It's British but for a technicality, let's be honest.Ralphy Rylance wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 11:42 pmHow is a British Crown Dependency in the British Isles foreign?Redrobe fan wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 8:28 pm We play in Europe every week.

One of the Wembley squad back in 1998.. and a half decent midfield player if I remember correctly.I'm not sure if he got on the pitch that day,but he hopefully has good memories of his time at the Port 25 years ago..
Well done to whoever organised this friendly and for thinking outside the box for a change..Just something a bit different.

It’s an independent country that shares our monarch (and lots more besides). It’s in what we call the British Isles (the Irish don’t!). I’m not sure that it was ever in the EU - some issues over financial regulation were a sticking point. One could say more! A lot of South Africans live there as apart from the tax advantages there are historic links via the mining industry. The geology is similar, I was told.Big Mac 1985 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 10:12 amIt's British but for a technicality, let's be honest.Ralphy Rylance wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 11:42 pmHow is a British Crown Dependency in the British Isles foreign?Redrobe fan wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 8:28 pm We play in Europe every week.
