Contenders For Summer Signings
Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
Looking around at clubs in our league and Alfreton have done some good bits of business especially signing Shaun Brisley.
Looking forward to who we bring in next and I think we need 3/4 more.

Jack Doyle
Declan Evans
Connor Heath
Josh Hmami
Tony McMillan
Keenan Quansah
Chris Renshaw
Freddie Sass
Matty Thomson
Tyler Walton
Niall Watson

Looks like Dylan Vassello, Joe Adams & Brad Wade have gone.
How many more are required?

Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
For me, we at least need another old head in midfield to sure it up a bit, especially for games that are tight at 1-0 or 2-1 and can show a bit of game management.
Also think we need an out and out striker - for me, if we're looking towards the top of the league, Archer and Heath won't cut it.
Could potentially do with a bit of cover for injuries in the defensive and midfield areas and I potentially worth taking a risk on a tricky winger to give ours some competition or have a burst of pace to get passed a man if they come off the bench.
If McMillan stays for another season, I do think he provides enough cover as a back up.
All in all, I'd say we need 4/5 more at a minimum

Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
I hope that some of the players above have a got a better attendance record than the season just gone. Its no use having players for example Jorden has been unfit for many of the games, I hope I'm wrong but it does worry me.

Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
I understand contracts and there may be movement now we are into June, but that squad list of primarily retained players is far too generous.
After last season there isn't a single player who could feel hard done by if they were moved on. Zero players performed well enough to nail down a place.
Personally, I would keep Evans, Bainbridge, Hmami and Walton. The rest could go without me batting an eyelid.

I would agree but would add Anson, Quansah & J Doyle to your list....Port on the Kent wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 11:27 pm I understand contracts and there may be movement now we are into June, but that squad list of primarily retained players is far too generous.

27 year old jake Hesketh former Southampton and Eastleigh has just signed for 7th teir Sholing
Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
I’d add a big bloke at centre back, a ball winner in centre mid, two fast wingers who can beat a man, and two blokes upfront who win headers.

No way Liam will sign another 6 players without getting rid of a couple.

Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
Realistically what does everyone think Liams squad size will be this season? Because am I right in thinking we have 14 players currently so would we say 6 new signings would be the absolute maximum and 4 the minimum?
Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
I would expect either 5 or 6 more signings Annonymous fan, that would give us 19 or 20. I can't see Liam having more than that.
Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
With the important caveat that it’s only early June so pressure to get people in is pointless at the moment, I’d still say that at least 20 players are needed. If we have a third season where having a small squad mean we run aground and win only a couple of matches from February onwards I ‘think’ the point will be made. However you do it, loans/short contracts near the end of the season, we simply must have more options than the 16 needed for a match day and 1 or 2 others. Last season 17 players played over 10 matches. If we have more money for transfers then both an increase in quality and numbers is required. What we are doing is not working so we have to have more players not just better players - injuries, suspensions, tiredness and loss of form happen. Small squad = running aground so this shouldn’t happen for a third year running.

Will hold on until recruitment is complete before casting judgement.
If we sign six young prospects from local lower league clubs we will be at the bottom.
If we signs six footballers with hundreds of matches under their belt in this division or above we will be nearer the top.

How much money do you think the club have ?. Or do you advocate a shit or bust approach ?.Port on the Kent wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 6:58 pm Will hold on until recruitment is complete before casting judgement.

There has been positivity from the club at the end of last season with talk of incoming investment. Nothing wrong with wanting to see that backed up with appropriate signings.portexileinbath wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 7:32 pmHow much money do you think the club have ?. Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
It's all very well releasing the likes of Charlie Oliver and Michael Carberry (neither of whom I would have released) but you have to replace them with better, and only time will tell if that happens. Both players were footballers who should have developed but in Oliver's case I never felt we got the best out of him in the main by him being played out of position(IMHO) as a full back or over lapping full back? Midfield every time for me where he actually used the ball effectively.Carberry was a lad who struggled defending but was pretty effective going forward-with pace too and maybe he could have been coached to play further up the pitch all the time instead of having to think about defensive duties? Think we've missed out there. The rumour that Dylan Vassallo is leaving? Ok,the same applies-as long as we have better players lined up.
Jordan Archer injured at the back end of the season-badly by all accounts. Was he under contract for this season? I presume he must have been because as much as I like him,we can't afford taking a chance on players breaking down on us and only playing a handful of games.
Lots of work to do with recruitement-lots...

I think Carberry wanted to go and Charlie is actually a center back /right back that's seems to have a attitude problem with believing in the clubyellowfever wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 8:02 pm It's all very well releasing the likes of Charlie Oliver and Michael Carberry (neither of whom I would have released) but you have to replace them with better, and only time will tell if that happens. Both players were footballers who should have developed but in Oliver's case I never felt we got the best out of him in the main by him being played out of position(IMHO) as a full back or over lapping full back? Re: Contenders For Summer Signings
I think yellowfever is right though, Oliver was a far better player than he was allowed to show with the tactics. The rare occasions he played centre midfield he showed an ability to regulate a game, pick a pass & win a tackle but at full back - only one ball needed, he did it but it was rarely effective.Olá wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 8:21 pmI think Carberry wanted to go and Charlie is actually a center back /right back that's seems to have a attitude problem with believing in the clubyellowfever wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 8:02 pm It's all very well releasing the likes of Charlie Oliver and Michael Carberry (neither of whom I would have released) but you have to replace them with better, and only time will tell if that happens. Both players were footballers who should have developed but in Oliver's case I never felt we got the best out of him in the main by him being played out of position(IMHO) as a full back or over lapping full back? Totally agree, with one caveat, as long as it dosent endanger the future of the club by overspending.Swedes wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 7:40 pmThere has been positivity from the club at the end of last season with talk of incoming investment. As I posted last season, I believe the club spent last year trying to save as much cash as possible, hence the small squad and why there we no signings in January. By doing that we had a survival season (a bit like austerity
I just hope that all fans get behind LW and the team and that there are no repeats of the disgraceful behaviour that cost the club so much last year. Forget last season and look forward to this one.
