Pitch update

Post by yellowfever »

It's great to see that progress with the pitch continues during the close season, with Rob's latest update today. We need rain!

I think the burning question that many supporter's are asking though, is how much of the pitch will the team be using during next season? For me the narrow pitch hasn't suited SFC for a few season's now and by and large the opposition have indeed benefitted from it? Results would say so, with home form overall generally dire- now is surely the time to address such matters? With the addition of coach Todd Blaney and performance analyst Andy Burgess, hopefully new idea's will be forthcoming on this and the style of football that fans can expect?

I understand that it depends on personell that you sign but supporters will be watching very keenly for news regarding this.

It really isn't that narrow. The club don't have much flexibility on the size of the pitch so, no, the opposition isn't benefitting from it really. They're all fairly similar sizes.

Our pitch last season was 100m x 64m which is the FA's recommended size for adult football. Yes - it's the minimum size allowed by the league - we could add 5.5m either side. But gone are the days when you could have a 45m wide pitch in the semi-pro or pro game.

I seem to remember a comment that our pitch was only second in size to the old Wembley - or did I dream it in a whisky and port induced fuzz ?

People used to say it was always one of the best playing surfaces in the Football League. Presumably we played FA Cup ties on a different surface if the YouTube footage of the Cardiff and Everton ties are anything to go by. Or maybe the internet is the death knell for urban myths.
We are the nutters, we come from the sea.
We must be nutters to watch SFC.

As I said I cant get excited about the pitch because our manager suffers from agrostophobia!
