Will we have enough Subs for the Boston Game that are fully fit ?
How would I know?
How many players should we have on our books to cover for every unpredictable possible injury?

I’d say 20 personally. 16 for the match day squad then 4 others who can cover injuries & suspensions. But as pointed out above we don’t have access to budgets & running costs so it’s all just speculation. We should have enough players to be competitive and certainly shouldn’t be in a situation where we don’t have enough to fill the bench. I’ll repeat - it was this problem in addition to Carver leaving & an unchanging style of play that saw out implosion last season so should have been the first priority this summer. The small squad mantra shouldn’t leave us without enough players to compete.

Hmami and Evans out for a month apiece and Bell out for the season so I make it 15 fit for Boston barring any more injuries/signings. Not saying this will be the team but as below:

Mason
Quansah
J Doyle
Anson
C Doyle
Oliver
Munro
Bainbridge
Woods
Watson
Archer

McMillan
Carberry
Walton
Vassallo
???

I would be very surprised if we don't make a couple of signings in the next week or two, maybe before Saturday. If Bell is not going to play this season we have 17 in the squad, and that isn't going to be enough.

I remember a few seasons ago Watson had said he likes to get his summer signings done early, which we did with Carberry. Usually any players released by FL clubs have received their final wage packet at the end of July and are signed at the start of August, usually after being with us on trail (see Niall Watson as an example). So far we seem to have done neither particularly effectively, although it is still only early August and we may have other things lined up.

Bell's injury is really unfortunate, but I'd like to think if recruitment had been adequate we wouldn't be worrying about going in to the season with one recognised striker who perhaps isn't at his best playing up top on his own.

Maybe we're waiting for other players who should know by now they're not getting a contract at clubs higher up the pyramid to drop down to us?

Maybe we've missed out on a few.

I don't think anyone has a problem waiting a couple of weeks into the season for the right ones as long as we eventually get them, but we just didn't do it when we needed to last season and it would be pretty depressing to let that happen again.

‘’ Southport have been ‘cracking on’ in their hunt for a replacement following the long-term injury to Nyal Bell.

The club are hoping to sign a player from the Football League on loan - who will be involved on Saturday.’’

Accrington have two youthful strikers in the first team squad who didn't make the bench last match, either would make sense.

Alhagi Touray Sisay who they picked up from the Welsh league: https://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/new ... gis-a-red/

Enock Lusiama was on trial for them this summer after playing for Darwen and Daisy Hill, they have given him a contract: https://www.accringtonstanley.co.uk/new ... cks-a-red/

We the fans cant influence Liams actions regarding signings and as many have said before the money to buy players isnt there just hope he can get a couple of decent loan signings and when we have Hmami and Evans back match fit after seven or eight games if all this happens we would then have an adequate squad .No need to panic just yet we had a bad start to the last season but Carvers goals [ and others of course] got us a few draws in those games and we ended up in a respectable league position in the end. Progression would be nice and might happen in the distant future in the meantime exciting games like the cup ones against Chorley last season would be very welcome.Has Jack Sampson signed another contract with Chorley yet?

Yes,I agree, it's the level of football that we play in that I don't like, and the lack of ambition to do anything about it,there's always optimistic at the start of a new season, but anyone who thinks that we are going to do little more than fight to stay in this league with the present set up is deluded

Interested to see how this pans out. He seems like the kind of striker we need in the fact that he say's he likes to make defenders feel uncomfortable which hopefully means he will be physical and good at holding the ball up. Welcome to the club.
