First half was poor, second half we were dominant although chances were hard to find until Hmami popped up with a header in injury time. A deserved point in the end.

We were dominant for most of the game. Their keeper made 3 good saves in the first half . Can't recall Scarborough having a chance other than their goal.
Defeat would have been a travesty.

Why do we have Woods in that position,Wasted.
Re: Southport 1-1 Scarborough - Match Thread
Take a point in the end. Slack defending for their goal (I think that Quansah thought that the ball was going out). Great cross from Connor Woods for our goal. Scarborough were solid but nothing special. We still lack threat up front. Lots of domination but little cutting edge. The team worked hard and we thoroughly deserved the point.
Re: Southport 1-1 Scarborough - Match Thread
Scarborough looked like they set up for a clean sheet and a goal on the break and it nearly worked. They packed the midfield and stopped up playing and were very clever in the way they used their physical presence, although the ref did get on top of it.
Again we have conceded down our right side, when we played a back three and I again question if Keenan is the right player in that position as a wing back. However Charlie Oliver has not had a look in for weeks.
We dominated for long spells, but the quality in the final third was lacking until the goal.
Again, I was surprised by the formation, with Connor starting as a striker alongside Jordan and Tyler Walton playing in the middle, when he has played out wide all season.
I think we just about deserved a point, but I was struggling to see where a goal was coming from. Long throws, we hardly won a flick on, corners were poor and they coped with the diagonal ball.
Not sure the 12.30 kick off worked. Crowd was down especially in the JC and the only beneficiaries were Lourdes Deli who must have made a fortune.

Offer accepted for one of our players. Any ideas who it is and what club?

Who ever it is it must be one of our better players and I guess the move is good for him but what about Southport Football Club?
Keep selling your best players and the club just stands still and never progress out of this league, history keeps repeating itself.
I guess we will be in the same position in 4,5 or 6 years time.

They generally don’t play someone when an offer has been accepted, so it may be Mason.

Has there ever been a time in the last 140 years when we could afford not to sell our best players?Stratford Excile wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:35 pm Who ever it is it must be one of our better players and I guess the move is good for him but what about Southport Football Club?

If I was guessing it is Cam........if I was him I wouldn't want to be a reserve to a 40 year old much as Tony Mac has served the club so well.Annonymous_fan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:15 pm Offer accepted for one of our players. Any ideas who it is and what club?
As for the game it looked like we were going to get nothing for all the hard work of the team, their Keeper pulled off at least 3 worldies we looked clueless at times then a moment or 2 of inspiration, the long ball game is awful to watch & puts so much pressure on the the taker of Corners throw ins free kicks, why we don't mix it up more I don't know, same old Watson tactic, yes it came off today in the end but it is shocking to watch I am sure the players must hate it too. We have some really good players who are wasted talents, I thought Woods improved us up front but Archer apart from 1 bit of skill 2nd half was easily played out of the game by Scarboro's brutes at the back. We need some more punch up front & learn to keep hold of the ball longer.

This is very misleading. Said it before and I’ll say it again. There are about four clubs in the world who can afford to refuse to sell their best players when a decent offer comes in - we’re not one of them.Stratford Excile wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 4:35 pmKeep selling your best players and the club just stands still and never progress out of this league, history keeps repeating itself.

I don't think it will be Cam, why would scouts travel miles to watch a player they know will be on the bench? To see his hairstyle?
It will be Bainbridge or Hmami probably.

Re: Southport 1-1 Scarborough - Match Thread
That was one of our better performances and we deserved to win the game. Should have been ahead after one minute when their keeper pulled off a good save from Keenan, who possibly should have squared it. He also tipped over two other efforts, and in the second half from about 45 - 70 minutes they never got out their own half. We penned them in and got off a few good efforts and put dozens of balls into the box. Scarborough had nothing apart from a fluke off someone's backside and a cross/shot from a set piece that landed on the roof of the net.
I like Keenan but there's a theme, he gets done too easy on that side. Same happened against Brackley when he was cut out by a straight pass. His athleticism means he can usually recover but his positioning has become a weakness.
I thought we kept the ball in the right areas well, we didn't give away daft throws or overhit long balls out for goal kicks which can happen. That spell for the first period of the second half was domination, we pushed right up to halfway and suffocated them.
My concern is we are saying the same things after each draw; played well, created chances, should have won, didn't. We are becoming a hard luck story and it all comes from not having a natural goalscorer. Only difference between us and the top teams is the likes of Chester who have Willoughby who is on 18 in all competitions, is we lack that final piece of the puzzle. We are one striker away from a really good team and it's frustrating because we are going to continue to play well and not win. I suppose every team is looking for that talisman and if 15+ goal forwards were freely available everyone would have them.
Archer's strike rate is bipolar; in a two he is good for scoring 1 in 2 which is great. As the only central striker it's more like 1 in 6. We either need to give Heath a run and try and forge a front two, or bring somebody in to partner him.
At the moment we are heading towards an 8/9th placed finish a few points off the play-offs is my assessment, if we can find that poacher to turn draws into wins then we will be a different proposition.

Re: Southport 1-1 Scarborough - Match Thread
It's difficult to guess who it'll be to be honest. It won't be Cam or Niall because they were only on the bench, I don't think it'll be Hmami or he wouldn't have been mentioned, Bainbridge is employed full-time by the club to coach the youngsters and will be getting a full-time wage to match. My guesses would be Anson and maybe Quansah? They're the two best players that played today that I haven't already mentioned IMO and both are relatively young. Maybe J. Doyle at a big stretch, I think he's been scouted before.
And on the 6th day, God created Jim Bentley.

Relieved we equalised and deservedly so against a largely ineffective chippy team . Question 5 at the back at home ? Seems to me when you have 3 central defenders they’re more likely to switch off than when you have just two more focused . Archer , lovely guy etc doesn’t do it for me with or without Carver I’m afraid , we can’t carry on hoping and hoping , we simply won’t make the play offs without a warrior up front. M
Wonder if we’re selling to bring in Carver , hope it’s either Jack or Josh they’re my favourite players, but I want them to progress and better their careers . As someone said c’est la vie at the Port, but on the bright side - Fancy us to grind out a win at Blyth.
