Sometimes news is just too big to deal with on a standard episode.
Fresh from his transfer away from Haig Avenue, Cameron Mason sits down with Dan Bond and Nicola Cave to discuss his career so far, his time with the Yellows and his hopes for the future.
A great interview as always, and it was a good opportunity for Cam to clear the air in regards to some of the aspects of the transfer and how it came about. I think, as expected, once he left the club on loan Liam had already reached the conclusion that he would play no further part, hence the lack of communication both from the Club and directly to Cam himself and the most likely nominal fee involved. I also sense that despite not having a bad word for Liam, Cam is somewhat upset with his treatment and rightly so; he knows he was probably in the three best players in this team, maybe even the best and so would be justified in his frustration at a lack of game time, even when fit. It is extremely frustrating however, and the low fee involved and Cam believing he would return, even not wanting to leave the Club on a permanent initially speaks volumes for how he enjoyed his time here and only compounds the mistreatment he's received since getting injured. It's also worth noting that he said he didn't ask for a high wage at Guiseley, and with them in a similar financial situation to us it's not even like we couldn't afford him, Liam just did not want him here anymore for whatever reason and that was the end of things, as it has been so often in the past.
Thanks to both Dan & Nic for a great interview, and being able to coax a top player onto the Podcast!
Clearly training has been an issue for a long time but disappointing that any player is discarded without the manager even telling them.
Well done to those doing the Podcast getting this interview that tells us a lot more than sanitised official club statements.
Maybe get Liam on to tell us the true story of his first sacking by Charlie because we've been waiting far too long for englishr to spill the beans that he said he had.

Have to say it was a pleasure and an honor to interview Cam with Nic last night. It's a great insight and a good chat with a great player. Great editing by Cav to get it up so fast!
Cam wanted to come onto the pod to clear the air and clear any confusion about his move. Seeing that one of the best keepers in the NLN last season has moved to a lower league club without any real justification for his move. For people that go every single week to watch Southport and have just been to a handful of games, they will be confused as to why he has moved.
Think there will still be a lot of people asking questions about the club. For me, we as fans could do with a plan of what's going on with the club and what we are aiming for. I think there is a group of players that if they left, would cause some discomfort amongst the fanbase, Cam is one of them, and Marcus also fits into that category.
And just to clarify, the questions were prewritten by all the regular folk on the pod and we went through them briefly with Cam before we started recording and he was okay to answer all of them. There was nothing else that Cam wanted to include and nothing he wanted to veto. Nothing got cut. The whole episode is a straight run with no editing at all.
Again, if you have listened, thanks for listening and I wish Cam all the best in the future. A top professional and a top guy.

I think he is too busy staging sit ins at Goodison to spill the beans!

Good interview, stand up bloke, good goalie.
Full time employment will always trump part time football.
Good luck, Cam.
Yes,I agree, highlights the problems with part time football, sometimes I forget!!
One thing though, cam seems to think that as the clubs number 1,if he's fit,he automatically plays, not sure about that,I wish him well

Ben Foster, the ex Watford, West Brom and Man United goalie recently admitted he had a "has to play if fit" clause in his contract at one of his clubs. May have been Watford?
With goalkeeper's, they are a bit different in terms to their status on the pitch and within a squad. In Cam's defence, regardless of how well/bad Tony has played, he's come in as the number 1 and probably expected to keep that position ahead of a 41 year old. What's happened with selection this season has perhaps stunned his pride a touch. The move away makes sense for everyone in my opinion. I don't subscribe to the argument that it's been dealt with badly. Sounds like the writing has been on the wall for a long time.
One thing I need answering...if Cam has rarely made a training session in 18 months or whatever, then who has Tony McMillan been coaching?! Haha.
Alan McDonald was more versatile than a Swiss Army knife.

I'm still waiting to hear the definitive story of Brian Kettle's sacking by Charlie - a critical juncture in the club's history.

I've heard three different versions.
I suppose it wouldn't be the done thing to say what they were. I heard a very plausible one at the time and, if true, considering he was back in football a few months later it's a shame the club didn't support him through his "personal issues" rather than accept his resignation.

Love him or hate him, Liam has always been driven by squad cohesion and togetherness. The idea of a player having automatic status was never going to wash.
As a recent high profile example has shown that to some managers no player is bigger than the club or team (and then national team), so Liam is hardly unique in this way.

Working till 12 noon on a Saturday was hardly ideal either if you need to be in places like Gloucester or Blyth well before 3pm.
Think that was for home matches only but I could be wrong.

Still not ideal, I'm not a great squash player as it is, but I am way worse if I have to play straight after work....

Possibly, though it would be a strange working pattern that gave you Saturday mornings off when it was an away game given the frequent fixture changes as a result of postponements and cup ties. It suggests a flexibility that wasn't there where evening training was concerned.
