Potential players in (loan or transfer or free)

Post by BlankPort »

Just noticed Christian Dibble has left Wrexham, would we be in position to offer him the playing time he craves for the reminder of the season. Covers us in the position and potentially helps him find form so he can go back to the national League level in the summer.

Thoughts?

The question is - would he go from being paid for full-time football to being paid for part-time football at Southport.

A full-time side in our league might be a better shout for him.

We had a small squad anyway but due to all the postponements we now have such a busy rest of the season with Saturday and Tuesday matches. We have also lost another body in Cam and it sounds like Declan's injury is going to be a couple of months at least.

We were flying by the seat of our pants as it was, asking a group of 17 part time players to complete this schedule without at least a couple of additions would be ridiculous, reckless and risking injury. We would get everything that we deserved, which is a lower mid table finish. I never question the work ethic of the players, but I do question how much apetite Liam and Ian have to actually do anything beyond fielding a team and 'being competitive.'

I have been to most matches and have said all along that I will commit the time and money if we are seriously trying to achieve something. But as soon as it becomes clear there is no ambition to achieve a play-off position and the slide towards the bottom half continues, that's me knocking it on the head until next year.

I am so bored with us getting ourselves into a strong position at the turn of the year and then throwing the towel in due to lack of investment. I am certain that every season since Liam returned we have been in the play-off positions for at least a few weeks, before we inevitably get overtaken by teams who are actually going for it.

I won't hold my breath but it would be so refreshing for us to bring some new blood in and have a go.

I do not expect promotion, I do not even expect us to finish in the play-offs, all I ask is that we have a go for once.

Well summed up, exactly how I feel.

The club certainly lacks any evidence of ambition and you never ever hear Ian Kyle nor Liam Watson talk of any I am afraid.

All so frustrating for the loyal supporters.

As lack of funds is the major stumbling block to being able to afford more squad members, is it time to put up admission prices, on the proviso the extra money is invested in players ?

How much do you think we'd need to increase them by in order to recruit players capable of winning promotion?

At what price point does the increase put people off from attending?

A £1 increase brings in £23000 based on 1000 attendances . Thats £575 per week added to a 40 week playing budget. (Based on 23 league games - haven't budgeted for cup matches as the gates vary wildly)

I can't see an increase beyond that being palatable to many in the current climate.

You must see the reality by now after all these years surely? The only different league the club in its current guise would be interested in going in is the one below. The Carver situation last year was the ultimate in showing the management and board in their ambition or total lack of it. There MUST have been money to replace him given his fee plus Charles and Tharme the team was in a great position and going well and we were given some hair brained nonsense of replacing him from within by playing players out of position. Hence the inevitable collapse. It makes me laugh when people still talk about the play offs even at this stage of the season and laugh even louder when the club's mouthpiece and one or two more come on here saying it's all going well it's just bad luck and poor officials etc and anyone a little more based in reality is talking nonsense. Final position will be nearer the drop than the play offs.

We are missing the corporate sponsorship I.e the stadium naming right.
Pure were supposed to have put in £75k a year, but I guess the going rate is 25k-35k now.

Even 25k a year will allow us to bring in 2-3 more players.

Increasing pricing is not the way forward. Better option would be to crowd fund players wages similar to some other clubs like Chester who seem to raise significant sums to boost their budget.

Supposed to put in, but didn’t, I’m told.

Agree about increasing prices. I’d like to see us put together a series of initiatives and options for fans to give more money if they can/want to. If anyone fancies putting some heads/ideas together and proposing something to the club then send me a DM, I’d be happy to be involved.

As RR points out, £1 a game from every fan wouldn’t quite be enough to fund a star striker - but an average of £1 a week from whoever is willing to must surely be achievable.

That's correct, we didnt get a penny. We were listed as a creditor to the tune of £75k when Pure went bust. Ian Kyle confirmed in an interview that was for the first year of the naming rights.

I don't disagree with most of this, but what's the alternative? Not go? That's what I will be doing as soon as this season becomes dead rubber but until then one must keep the faith I suppose.

I think we’ve reached that time, POTK. You and others should save your self the hassle now. Why should you make an effort when there’s clearly no effort being shown in the top echelons of the club.

I was thinking of an increase of £1 - 1:50. That should get someone reasonable. With such a player the playoffs could well still be in reach which would obviously add to the attendances.
The idea of crowd funding is something I would be willing to subscribe to, the questions is, how many others would do the same, it would need to be quite a few to make any difference.
Ref the selling of Marcus C (and others). If SFC were to stand in the way of players moving up to league clubs, it would deter players who are willing to come to us, so they are "in the shop window" and would therefore be self defeating.
Final point. I am not giving up on a playoff place with nearly half a season remaining !.

Darlo is under an hour away from me and I'll go to Chorley as a derby.

No wins by then and I will see you in August!

I agree, maybe keep season tickets, concessions the same, but the price on the gate should be a least £15,as for the rest of the season, yes it's quite simple, loose the next two,and that's the end of the play offs,

Nobody is saying Carver shouldn't or couldn't have been sold but he should have adequately replaced with the funds from his and others transfers. Quite simple as for once the play offs were a genuine target at the time but were shown to be not an ambition shared by everyone shall we say. Replace him by playing players already on the books out of position? I believe Woods was mentioned at the time? As usual you don't actually read what people have written unless they are kissing the proverbial of the players, management and board.

To bring in 1 extra player on a 2 year 35 week contract at £350 would need to raise £24500.

I'm sure the supporters could raise that it was properly organised. 200+ supporters at an average of 100 each
