I think he has had some rough luck, and I also think it's a poor move by Scunthorpe as he does well at this level.

Re: Marcus Carver
Throw whatever is needed to secure his signature. The difference between him with us and without is plain to see for all and if we have any ambitions to progress up this league and challenge he is the man to get the goals to enable it.

All depends how ambitious we really are to move out of this league.

Re: Marcus Carver
I have it on good authority that we are introducing another signing 1st week in June let's hope it is Marcus....it would do wonders for Season Ticket sales.....
Re: Marcus Carver
Marcus, if you're reading this, please come home!
Re: Marcus Carver
It certainly would, as would Peter Clarke, which is a rumour received from Oldham fans about three weeks ago, at the same time they said we were playing a friendly against them. Probably quite old for Liam, but definitely a leader on the pitch. I must stress only a rumour from fans at Oldham. We will have to wait and see

Peter Clarke is knocking on but he still managed 30 league games this season.

Re: Marcus Carver
Peter Clarke would be a good acquisition for Port as he would add experience and steel to the squad....Interesting re Marcus Carver being made available by Scunthorpe too
Re: Marcus Carver
The risk of bringing in a player of Peter Clarke's age is the transition from full-time to part-time football can result in a significant drop in fitness level, which can be more noticeable than it would with younger players. Gary Jones was brilliant when he first joined us, but the deterioration in form and fitness was rapid and sad to see.
Re: Marcus Carver
Paul Futcher kept himself fit at about the same age. I admit it doesn't sound like a Liam signing, but I think his leadership would be invaluable. Only time will tell

Re: Marcus Carver
Peter Clarke, even at 41, would be invaluable to us in the short term. Definitely worth a 12 month contract. Could the club afford him and Marcus ? Not so sure but would be great additions to the squad plus an experienced keeper. Would definitely boost season ticket sales which would help finances etc. an experienced spine with a box to box midfielder a la Mike Marsh type, if only !!

Is it really an "obsession"? That word puts me in mind of those people who keep their wee in labelled bottles or that woman who followed Ken Dodd around for years, not sure we're in that territory yet.
Just get him signed - he was fantastic for us.

Why’s either weird, Ronald? If you don’t effectively label you lose track of your micturation emissions and Doddy was a fascinating, if maybe not, stalkable character.Ronnie Hotdogs wrote: ↑Tue May 23, 2023 6:31 pm Is it really an "obsession"? Anyway, more seriously it would be good to have Marcus back but Stephen Killen believes we’re not in for him and that Dylan Vassallo has moved on (did I miss this one?)

Re: Marcus Carver
The Killen article could be clearer but I think it means Marcus is not the player who'll be announced on June 1 - rather than us not being in for him at all.

Re: Marcus Carver
I agree.
Carver has been full time and is still contracted and I dont see how he or we could afford bringing him here - except on some kind of a loan deal.
