Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Former Port midfielder David Lynch (Clitheroe manager) signs for Marine so he can play against Tottenham in the FA Cup third round. Has been managed by Neil Young before, may play against Mourinho’s team and will then return to his day job after the tie. Strange.

Re: Carry on football!

I would watch Carry On Football. Roy Hodgson has a naturally put-upon kind of demeanour, I could definitely see him in a hospital trolley rolling down some stairs. You could also have Allardyce in as some kind of Sid James figure, possibly running a suggestive hot dog concession. Plenty of scope fo...

Re: Carry on football!

Very peculiar thread, this. Titled, 'carry on football', but it's just a moan at the government. Haha. I would watch Carry On Football. Roy Hodgson has a naturally put-upon kind of demeanour, I could definitely see him in a hospital trolley rolling down some stairs. You could also have Allardyce in...

Re: Favourite kits

I’m a traditionalist when it comes to kits so a simple yellow with black details rather than stripes or halves that we’ve had. As with many fans I loved the kit I first saw us in back in 90-91 (when it was more old gold than the current yellow). If we could get retro shirts for sale I’d certainly be...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

I am quite frankly amazed that people suggest Gary Brabin as a Southport manager in the final days of 2020. Not only has he been a coach and not a manager since 2016 (which shows Alan Lewer levels of managerial inactivity!) he left us in the lurch to go to Tranmere & has no recent knowledge of t...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

Just over 700 in attendance, it looked like more - improvement on previous two games and certainly a big bonus to the club, with the gate receipts on top of the funding which remains unchanged. We should also get the furlough money in Jan that the government promised and few clubs are changing thei...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

When we launch the ball forward, how many times do we win the header? The answer is very, very few. Therefore we are effectively giving possession away most of the game. When we played it on the floor we looked much more dangerous. I am afraid Liam's tactics don't work any more. If we get beat at H...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

My criticism has come off the back of seeing the result as I didn’t follow today’s game, however some of the posts on here tonight have left me so confused. Some posters have said we played nice attacking passing style football and some have said it was woeful hoofball. Jeez who knows what to belie...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

It was a better performance than recent home displays with the inclusion of Vasallo and Woods meaning we had skill & ability on the wings and numbers in midfield. I though Ali was very good especially in the first half. Of course we still concede possession like it’s going out of fashion and whi...

Re: Match Thread - Marine V Southport

Well done to the team tonight. Glad we can access a stream on Saturday at least! It’d be great to post something else about Port than complaints about the formation & tactics - we don’t have to play only one way and if something works better, let’s do it!

Re: Southport 1 - 1 Alfreton

A better performance than Tuesday with at least some variation in forward balls seeing as Newell & Woods played. Also, the substitutes proved that we need to get Vasallo in the side more often as he can pick a pass & Archer is our main striker as at least he has goal attempts. In the end we ...

Re: Southport 0 - 1 Farsley

:D Poor show again last night. The worry is we never learn from our mistakes even from a kick off ball booting ball to far left corner giving opposition the ball. This article, though a few years old, looks into the deliberate whack it out tactic from kick off. It’s in keeping with our general appro...

Re: Southport 0 - 1 Farsley

As with others I feel it’s pointless to rehash criticism of our playing style as the tactics don’t change so the analysis won’t. I’ll just say that this seasons record is Home W 1 D 1 L 4 For 3 Against 7 Points 4 Away W 3 D 1 L 1 For 8 Against 5 Points 10 (note that 4 of those 5 goals conceded were ...

Re: Fans at Sporting events. Up to 2000 in Tier 2

There are two issues that the club needs to bear in mind: We will have quite a few spectators living in tier 3 locations who cannot attend, so streaming should continue (the club is on the border of tier 3 regions) Can volunteers in tier 3 help out or not? I’d assume not as the advice is ‘people ar...

Re: Gateshead V Southport - Match Thread

I think we’ve seen inconsistency from Mo. At times he’s been very good but on Saturday, from the highlights, less so. The same as any player I suppose but it’s the one position we have a few options so it’s whether the manager feels Mo would be better playing through to find his form or bring Winnar...

Re: Gateshead V Southport - Match Thread

Highlights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCCGP3PsVU4 I’m just wondering if Ali had to pay to get back into the ground on the numerous occasions he was sent out of it. Almost a lesson in how not to defend - giving the ball away, allowing strikers room to shoot and a lazy trip in the box. We’ve got...

Re: Gateshead V Southport - Match Thread

Ali was brought in as a left sided defender, but playing on the right. Anson plays on the right or in the middle. Hates playing on the left. I believe the rather depressing reason for this is that a right footed centre half playing the ball forward with his right foot only has a third or the pitch ...

Re: Bradford (Park Avenue) 0-2 Southport - Match Thread

I think this league has moved on from long ball football. We have to have a contemporary gameplan. I honestly think we have the players to do it. Long ball football won’t win you this league anymore. Plus, when we did win it, we had exciting players who scored goals by the bucketload and could play...
