Re: Halifax FA Trophy

Yes, it’s a pig of a pitch. Remember that game in 2002-3 when we won 4-3 there?
Thought we’d got out of the bad run and would move up the table. Sadly we didn’t and we’ve never really recovered from that relegation.

Re: Halifax FA Trophy

I'm sure this game will be off. What a profoundly depressing interview with Liam. Just admits we haven't a hope of getting promoted, that the emphasis is simply on blooding young (actually not so young - 22 year olds are not young footballers) players and selling them on. This is apparently realism ...

Re: Carry on football!

Looking at League 2, it looks quite likely Barrow will be relegated without ever having been able to host a proper crowd. Dreadful for their fans if that’s what happens.

Re: The Table

As Sean points out, the 5000 plus gates were way, way below those of our rivals the season we went up (clubs like Tranmere, Stockport, Southend) and didn’t last long - once Bingham had left and we were treading water they sometimes fell below 3000 even before relegation - not enough to sustain a tea...

Re: The Table

Just been reading Sean McPartlin’s new book on the sixties. He makes it very clear just how poor our gates were even when we were going well in the old Third Division. It is difficult to understand quite why, but the town has always been lukewarm about the club. So in the circumstances I still think...

Re: Favourite kits

We probably copied Wolves back in the 50s so it would bring us back full circle (they were the same figures in Subbuteo leastways).
Let’s get names back on shirts too.

Re: Curzon Away - 2nd Jan

I’m no doctor either but there doesn’t seem to be much evidence that playing in the open air, with face to face contact limited to a few seconds at a time, poses a huge risk, particularly when players are tested regularly. There have been remarkably few cases amongst professional footballers. Boris’...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

The points we picked up were mainly at the beginning. Projecting the results of the last few games and we’ll really be in trouble. It does have that 2002-3 feeling. We couldn’t think at the turn of the year that we would go down - we’d had a poor Autumn after a great start and the Notts County victo...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

It has a bigger normal capacity to start with and unlike Haig Avenue their stands and terraces are all the full length and width of the pitch which presumably allows space for more people whilst still allowing for social distancing. The fact they have access and egress on all 4 sides of their groun...

Re: The Table

If we were in the EFL I’m sure we would get as many as Accrington or Harrogate. But after so many years of dross and decline the gates we get are surprisingly good.

Re: AFC Fylde Away

I'm sure young, fit players are in no danger, but you do hope they've been sensible in relation to other family members, unlike some of the Premier League players we've read about. We've been lucky to get so far into the season without infection. I suppose that's potentially the next two games off a...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

As I’ve said before, we need more people on the board. Without Liam, Ian would have nobody to support him in running the club. He’s not an autocrat like Charlie - he needs someone to talk to!
BTW, a reasonable gate yesterday all considered. How were Telford allowed 1600 against Chester, though?

Re: A Little Post Christmas Trivia

Was it that season or the season before that when we lost 5-0 at home to Oldham on the most snow-covered pitch I’ve ever seen played on? Absolutely perishing cold. Here’s another bit of trivia - looking through the league tables, I count 9 clubs in NLN that can claim (albeit tenuously in some cases ...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

Can’t win against anyone in this league. It’s relegation form. Feels like 2002-3, the last time we fell into the NPL.
