Re: Squad assessment

Sorry, but I’m going to agree to disagree totally on the Liams our saviour line. If you want to call it survival then we can thank James, Steve Brown and Christine and of course Phil who funded bringing in all the players whom we’ve been able to sell on not including those like Osborne now at Steve...

Re: Squad assessment

The best Watson teams were a similar set up. Solid battles in the middle and pace out wide with hard working lads up top. From what I saw this season it felt like we lacked that solid spine. We needed another solid centre mid who owned the centre circle and let no one through and a rock in central ...

Re: Season declared null and void

Part of the letter sent by National North/South clubs to it's board wishing to carry on playing in a "mini league" to retain promotion and relegation, talks of playing on being in the best interests of the mental well being for it's supporters and communities. What a load of tripe... That...

Re: Video interview with Ian and Liam

Not a lot said that we did not know and I can see that they have had a hard time keeping the club going. So It is no good looking back and we have about six months to when we start up again. I like many have had my Jab and let us hope it means that the public can once again attend the matches. In th...

Re: Season declared null and void

A correct decision, who would of seen this twelve months ago! Two full seasons not complete, fingers crossed for 21/22, crazy that the last full season would of been 18/19 - arguably that’s only two full seasons out the fifth tier  . The biggest challenge now, is to maintain engagement with al...

Re: Liam Watson post match

By my reckoning seven clubs refused to play yesterday: Bradford PA, Farsley, Curzon Ashton, Kettering, Guiseley, AFC Telford and Spennymoor. i can't see the NL expelling them all. Plus us if we refuse to play Tuesday, and clubs in the south division. Greatest power is as a group of clubs. We must s...

Re: David Morgan

Best of luck to him, great servant. League 1 is one hell of a jump and at 26 is he likely to develop leaps and bounds like Dion has? I have my doubts but I wish him all the very best. After the season we've had, we need a complete fresh start from top to bottom when minds can finally refocus on foo...

Re: Match Thread Halifax Town v Southport - FA Trophy

Excellent victory for port well done. Great way to sign off the season. See you in August Very good win in bad conditions I did not think the match would be on. No reason to stop the season just get on with playing under lockdown rules. May I suggest you listen to Ian's interview yesterday and then...

Re: Golden Days

What a wonderful read for those of us who were there in the sixties and seventies and you younger folk who want to know what it was really like. Fantastic memories of doing the same things as the author and remembering great players. Thank the Lord that most people's two favourites, Eric Redrobe an...

Re: The Table

As Sean points out, the 5000 plus gates were way, way below those of our rivals the season we went up (clubs like Tranmere, Stockport, Southend) and didn’t last long - once Bingham had left and we were treading water they sometimes fell below 3000 even before relegation - not enough to sustain a te...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

Perhaps it’s been missed in the substantial communication from the club but what exactly is the aspiration for this season? Has it ever been communicated? Is lower mid-table the target? Should IK be stating his ambitions for the club? There have been “five year plans” and “definitely going to win t...

Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton

On reflection it is a game we should have been able to hold onto, the more worrying aspect is, the last time we saw us the home team, impose ourselves from the off, you would expect the fancied teams York Boston Brackley etc. to be a tough prospect, but really sitting back to teams at a lower level...

Things can only get better but not while this present management team are in charge . They are an outdated pair and " It Is what It Is " till they go.

Re: Match Thread - Spennymoor V Southport

Thanks for the link to the highlights Hat Trick Patrick. Marvellous to see us win on pens. Good game to watch and did well with the Pens. Pity we gave two soft goals away . Note to the coach the Wall all jumped for the free kick the ball went along the ground under them' into the net. So they did n...

Re: Match Thread - Marine V Southport

First half, Marine came out the traps with energy and confidence, first to the ball, playing some neat football and prepared to shoot from everywhere. They hit the bar and Tony Mac pulled off a couple of regulation saves, and one excellent one from Kengni, who was a nuisance all evening. By contras...

Re: FT: Guiseley 4 - 2 Southport

I don't buy into this inexperienced squad suggestion. Yes, we have some inexperienced players, but the following have plenty of experience: Hanford: 29 years old, over 300 competitive matches Winnard: 31 years old, over 350 competitive matches Challoner: 27 years old, over 250 competitive matches, ...
