Well first half was a pleasure to watch. That system makes us play football rather than hoof it. Got to focus second half into the wind

Missed the goal, but now on. Some good play, let’s have another goal!

Same old thing- can’t defend free kicks. But excellent response!

Poor decisions leading up to both of their goals.

What a disappointment.
For 92 mins that's the first time this season I would genuinely say we played well and deserved to win. Second half we were on the back foot but apart from set pieces we looked comfortable. Both Curzon goals started with free kicks which were not even fouls - so frustrating
On the plus side, we played some football!! Woods and Vasallo are both dangerous with the ball and good to see them playing in positions that suited them. Carver and Newell look a better combination. Ali looked comfortable at Left Back.
We are not going up or down this season. Fair play to Liam for recognising we needed to change the system, and we look better for it.
Happy New Year everyone (well, a significantly better one at least)

Can’t win against anyone in this league. It’s relegation form. Feels like 2002-3, the last time we fell into the NPL.

If only Southport could defend a set piece..

Seen this for so many years with port. I was fully expecting the equaliser I would have been in shock had we won that game. Port always do this. Another joke of a season.
Forget performances it’s a results business.

Imagine going to a Southport game and expecting anything different. Same comments on here every week, take it for what it is, don’t get too invested and enjoy your Christmas and new year.

First half OK, but against a poor team. There was some good play and some good performances, especially Woods.
You just knew that their second was about to be scored. Why didn’t our defence?
Unfortunately this is relegation form. I don’t know how some posters can claim otherwise.
What can be done?

So disappointing. Can't defend set pieces!!! Looked better in this system, Newell makes qll the difference he is wuch an intelligent footballer. You just got the feeling that the equaliser was coming from a corner and it did!!! Another 2 points dropped!
Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton
The formation needed to change, I hope we don't revert back because of this one game. The first half performance was decent. Mo Ali was outstanding.

Thoroughly agree with all the comments above.Sgreen1234 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 5:00 pm What a disappointment.

I thought we were excellent first half and they played the conditions well in the second.
Vassallo could be some player. He causes problems when he gets the ball in space.
Connor Woods needs to learn to head a ball, but is very talented. Dan Hanford kicking needs some work.
When we played it on the floor we were terrific. Can we do it more often please.
Re: Match Thread - Southport V Curzon Ashton
Curzon are a decent team - they have spent a lot of money and play good football. They were a lot of pundits dark horses. Just because they are unfashionable gives us no right to walk all over them.Redrobe fan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 26, 2020 5:24 pm First half OK, but against a poor team. The league is that tight. A couple of wins and back with a chance of a playoff.
Take note that Fylde - who have spent a fortune in transfers and have a huge wage bill are in freefall. Football is a funny old game.
