With the National League "allegedly" breaking their own rules by trying to impose loans on clubs who don't wish to continue-it surely couldn't defend that in a court of law? Not that anyone would want it to go that far.
In turn, punishing clubs for not fulfilling fixtures with demotion, fines, or points deductions whatever would surely not be enforceable if the National League were "allegedly" breaking their own rules?

The only solution is like you guys above say -let the ones who wish to continue carry on.
A mini league tournamount-half a dozen teams playing each other twice or four times?
We need a football club at the end of this, and one that isn't saddled with forced debt.

If only a handful of clubs in each division carry on I just don't see how promotion and relegation between the 3 divisions would work.

Assuming some clubs in North and South play their own mini leagues, who would the champions replace in the National division at the end? The bottom club from the National mini league (unfair if they're effectively top half of the original 22 rather than bottom of the league)? Or one of the clubs who've withdrawn from the season (unfair as they've withdrawn for the good of the health of the nation and also cannot compete as an insolvent business)? Would the withdrawn clubs' records be null and voided meaning there'd be numerous clubs on 0 points or would they be in the final table on a PPG basis alongside the mini-league clubs who will have played a completely different set of fixtures.

At the end of the day it's unwise and unsafe for any club to be playing. Telling the big spenders they can carry on going for their promotion spot with fewer competitors is completely the wrong message to be sending.

Totally agree RR re nobody should be playing at this level but these "big" clubs aren't going to stop stamping their feet about this.
It will be farcical if they try to get a conclusion on the field- as last season was.I don't have an answer how you would sort any type of fairness with promotion and relegation out-and neither I suspect will the National League board.

Nobody should be playing, but if some inconsiderate teams want to continue, let them play a mini league with promotion and relegation decided on their final position. So if 6 north teams want to cotinue, 1 promoted, 1 play off and 3 relegated. With that format, i wonder how many would continue ?.

There would have to be at least 13 clubs in the NL willing to continue in order to pass the notion of continuing the season.

The best I could come up with would be to relegate the
‘bottom placed’ side and replace them with the winner of a playoff between the NLN and NLS champions. Even works on an extra level if they happen to finish 13th.

Would be interesting to see how many clubs suddenly decide it isn’t safe to continue when their chances of promotion and relegation have changed.

Or you could just finish the season now...

Dover chairman Jim Parmenter has said that if the current situation doesn't change in the next couple of days he will cease football operations and furlough the staff, according to the Guardian website. Surely something has to give soon....

Rather a long thread but well worth a read. Basically Dulwich Hamlet have gone through the NL rule book and found that every option available to them is against the rules.

Interesting that the BBC results page show last night’s game as being postponed - other rather than postponed - frozen pitch? Don’t want the NLN thinking we refused to play 😉

....shame we improved the drainage on our pitch. Acts of weather postponing games would be so much easier to halt the season..
