Tweak the rulebook

Post by Exiled Port Fan »

Ignoring the nonsense around VAR declaring a player offside due to a leg hair being past the defender, what tweak would you make to the rulebook to improve football.

I would make it 1 point for a 0-0 draw, 2 points for a score draw and 3 points for a win. Hopefully that would encourage less negative play when a slender lead ahead and also encourage teams to attack more when in the past they may have played a 9-0-1 formation for a 0-0 draw.

You could go one further and make it zero points for a 0-0 draw.

RULES
- Increase the distance an opponent must stand from a throw-in to 5 yards
- Increase the length of time a goalkeeper can handle the ball to 10 seconds, but ensure it is properly enforced
- Diving to be made a red card offence
- Shirt pulling to be made a red card offence

COMPETITIONS
- All clubs to enter the FA Cup at the same round
- 3up3down from League 2
- Relegation playoffs - bottom team is relegated, champion is promoted, Last-1, Last-2, 2nd place, 3rd place enter playoffs

A new definition added to offences that get a red card, cheating. This would include, diving in penalty area, feigning injury, trying to influence the referees decisions on red / yellow cards.
Yellow cards for time wasting and delaying an opponent taking a restart by obstructing them, cards should be given for each occasion, not just as a token gesture at the end of the game, when it will make no difference to the outcome.

How come during open play ANY physical contact from a defender results in a striker being "entitled to go down" and a penalty awarded, yet when a corner is being taken strangulation seems acceptable?
We are the nutters, we come from the sea.
We must be nutters to watch SFC.

Only a minor one, but throw-ins to be taken from where the ball went out of play! The amount of times players (ours too) gain 10 yards from a throw-in is ridiculous. Throw-in taken from the wrong place to result in a free SFC season ticket, or throw-in awarded to the other team.

EDIT: not a rule change per se, but one that should be enforced.

Not every 0-0 draw is a bore draw or 2 teams parking the bus. Sometimes a 0-0 draw can be an impressive achievement or a case of rank bad luck.

Every team do this. What annoys me is when the ref stops the throw-in then turns his back on play and the player just steals the ground anyway.
All it needs is a few yellow cards and players would stop doing what is effectively cheating.

Making a player leave the field of play if he has been treated for an injury on the pitch. Stupid rule.

I agree with most of the above.

I would go back to 2 points for a win and one for a draw. You either win the points or you share them.

Yellow card for spitting on the pitch.

Yellow cards for each player if the ref is surrounded to challenge a decision.

Ejection from the ground for shouting 'Where's Plan B, Liam?'.

Referees must wear pink and yellow kits and change their names to Mark Battenberg.

Every full back must play with a labrador running up and down the line beside them.

Deduct a goal every time the post/bar is struck (if this means a negative scoreline so be it.) Be more accurate.

All goal music to be scrapped and replaced with Arthur Askey's 'The Bee Song.'

At corners, only the GK allowed in the 6 yard box.

Penalties. As in a shot out, one shot, no rebounds. If not scored, restart with a goal kick.

90 Minutes of ball in play.
Makes timewasting difficult.

Only 2 nominated Main Stand Moaners allowed per game and have to be 25 yards away from each other ,all others to pay but not allowed in.
How much more enjoyable it would be sitting in the stand

If a player is forced to leave the field for treatment (such as concussion protocol) after a foul by the opposing team, the player who committed the foul should also be made to leave the field for the dutation of the treatment.
This would stop teams gaining an advantage due to their foul play.

Blackburn gold, great idea, but how about anyone moaning about LW before 10 games have been played banned for the season.

Fewer subs, ideally none. Would make games more equal, especially at Prem level, where clubs like Burnley would have more of a chance against Man City and the like. And would save money at our level.
The game’s supposed to be 11v 11 not 18 v 18.

Let’s just flog the players a little bit more!

Few things could be learnt from rugby. Only the team captain or players being addressed allowed to approach the referee, any breaches of this by the penalised team at a stoppage see the restart moved 10 metres further up the pitch. Yellow card for any dissent or harassment of referee if the team have previously been warned, regardless of whether the player doing this has previously breached.
Yellow to be punished by 10 minutes in the bin

The Tom Youngs punishment this week, making him train as a referee and officiate youth team matches is brilliant!
