Will YOU Be Returning?

Post by Port on the Kent »

Football, like every other entertainment industry, is currently weighing a common question which is; how many previous attendees will resume their habits once they are legally able to?

As with shopping, dining out, cinema-going and other leisure activities, people broadly fit into three brackets. Those who are keen to resume their past life and will participate at the earliest opportunity. Those who are still anxious about the Covid threat and would rather hang fire, see how things go and then make a decision later down the line. Those who would return, but feel too put off by all the restrictions that they would rather not bother.

Given the recent interview by James, which handily sets out the restrictions that will be in place when we return, I am interested in the apetite out there. Those who have not seen the interview yet can watch it on our YouTube channel; but to sum up, the restrictions imposed include: one square metre for every fan/fans who attend(ed) together, temperature testing on entry, masks on entry/exit and when moving around the ground, staggered departure times to manage egress, one way systems down Haig Avenue (pending council approval), dedicated seating, use of hand sanitising and a "two strikes and out" approach to any non-compliance. These restrictions bring the capacity down to around 20/30% as per the guidelines. It is impossible to provide an exact figure as that depends how many fans arrive in groups and how many individuals. Roughly, this provides a capacity of around the 1,200 figure which is supported by Ian saying he believes home supporters can be accomodated, but there may be issues with larger away support.

We now have some idea what the "new normal" means and I am interested to see how many will join in. I can only speak for myself, and my first point would be to commend James and Ian on how thorough and competently they have approached this. As was mentioned on another thread, can you imagine where we would be if this was left up to the regime who brought us two yellow kits.

My own view, is that I have held a season tickets for many seasons but chose not to renew, and purely for personal reasons I will not be returning until i can enjoy (as much as one can enjoy sixth tier football) fully. The idea of a sanitised square metre with my every action subject to dozens of regulations does not enthuse me, and I would rather knock the whole thing on the head until a later date. That's just me however, and I would throw the question open...

Will you be returning straight away?

Personally no. Nothing to do with covid, I live in Spain but have bought a membership to support the club. Probably get to a couple of games if I'm lucky. If I was living in the UK, definitely would be there.

Will you be returning straight away?
Definitely.

I too haven't renewed my season ticket but that is simply because I don't know how many games I'll be able to attend as other commitments mean I may be ferrying my son elsewhere some Saturdays. The perfectly justified increase in prices means a season ticket might not be cost effective for the number of games I get to.

Apart from that I can't wait to get back.
That enthusiasm usually lasts for about 3 home games...

The measures the club are having to implement seem to go way beyond what other places of leisure are having to implement, but I suppose we should be reassured by that.

Whilst I’m not keen to go into a restaurant or a pub, I do feel that the outside environment of a football stadium, particularly with the regime that Ian and James have outlined, is as safe as can be. I have purchased a membership, mainly as a gesture of support to the club and I’m looking forward to being able to use it. At the end of the day, it doesn’t look as though Coronavirus is going to be eradicated any time soon, so we all have to make a decision as to whether we get on with living our lives, using common sense to look after not only our own safety, but that of our fellow human beings, or lock ourselves away and become recluses. My vote is definitely for the former.

3 Mates & myself will be there when the season starts, I also commend Ian Kyle for his leadership & good common sense approach to the task in hand, the club is in good hands. Hopefully the early season optimism will turn into a tilt at promotion, with the accent on more attacking play & taking the game to the opposition more than we did at times last term.

You try and stop me! :D
But in all seriousness, I suppose it really does depend on everyone's personal risk, ie; age and underlying health issues. Then again I have faith in all the procedures that the Club and in particular James Tedford are implementing for all of our safety.
Wont be the same for a while unfortunately, not being able to sit with all my main stand moaner friends in the usual seats but thats a small price to pay for our safety and to be able to watch my beloved Port again after what will be 7 months.

I live too far away but I would if I could. Nobody stands near me at matches at the best of times so nothing to worry about there.

Absolutely I'll be returning.

James has very clearly explained the procedures and although obviously it won't the same for a while we have to start somewhere.

I can't see away games being an option for a while, capacity issues, travelling and local lockdowns look set to stop those until things are loosened a little more but as soon as safe to do so I'll be back on the road with the Yellows.

I’ll certainly be returning as the professionalism and diligence of those running the club means it’ll be a very safe environment. Of course It’ll be different for a while and that will take a little getting used to but a very safe and secure place for us to watch football.
