2020/21 Fixtures...

We start the league at home to Hereford on Tuesday October 6th, with Curzon for the traditional Christmas double, finishing the campaign away at Kiddy on Saturday May 29th.

Let’s hope we can go to some games!

Don't expect much scope for away fans anywhere. We expect to sell the stand out to home fans
DCMS still advising October start, but no word on test events yet...
May be a concern with large jumps in cases.

I see quite a few games in the north east and Midland scheduled for midweek have been postponed due to Covid concerns.

I know it’s just the luck of the draw but I am slightly disappointed in Curzon home and away over Christmas and new year. I see we have Fylde on the 28/12 away but a good tasty double header fixture against Chorley or Chester would have been better than Curzon. Come on the Porrrt

First reaction....what have the club done to upset the league such that we get Curzon. Clubs put in their first choice for Christmas fixtures and nobody in their right mind would ask for Curzon. However, it’s not as bad as it would normally be given potential revenue from a Chester/Chorley game wouldn’t be as high this year. Therefore, if we don’t get promoted then we shouldn’t suffer the same short straw in 21/22.

Then you see that they’ve given us Brackley on a Tuesday night in Feb and it makes you think again.

I don't think we will be able to go to many away games (we can't let that many away supporters in at Haig Avenue). . This is were I think Rob, Alan and their media people need to do something. . I do believe that we should be filming games and relaying them live online to Southport supporters at home and sell a form of season ticket to cover the costs (it would probably require some expenditure on equipment). . A few permissions will no doubt be needed (League and Away clubs), but really there is no reason that they should be refused with the current situation. . . Just a thought.

I still wonder whether this season will be feasible given that crowds will be negligible and games will be called off if any players are infected. Crowds will be banned completely again if there are more local lockdowns or if spectators refuse to stand apart etc etc. If it all goes pear-shaped clubs will go bust with no furlough scheme in place.

I agree with you especially in the NW and centre north and midlands where cases are growing it’s concerning.

I’m no Boris fan, but when managing an epidemic you have to continually review the epidemiological evidence and modify your policy as you go - day by day if necessary. A major fault was not making that clear to the public at the start.

If you look at the fixtures in full, all are local derbies, except in the NW
Telford v Chester
Southport v Curzon

The only other NW clash is Chorley v Fylde, which is fair enough.

With an odd number of north west teams then it's unavoidable that 1 would have to have to venture outside the region. It makes more sense to send Chester to Telford than it would to send Curzon or Southport there. Curzon is as local as Chester is.

The good news is that the DCMS have written a letter today stating that the plan for the National League is to start with crowds from Oct 1, as long as cases don't get significantly worse.

Even though Southport has very few cases, Merseyside will almost certainly follow the NE into tougher lockdown rules.
The NE restrictions have stopped spectators at amateur and semi professional sport....

Restrictions on crowds will persist indefinitely and there will be random lockdowns which will disrupt competitions. Clubs need to minimise expenditure and do even more to increase non-traditional income sources. The leagues should restrict teams to one substitute to avoid expense and dispense with the 4th official. Scrap local cups and trophy replays. Only play Saturdays in winter to avoid gates of 200 on Wednesdays in February, and extend the season automatically if there are problems, rather than asking teams to play three or four games a week at the end of the season,

Will be lucky to get a gate of 200 at the FA cup final if the doom mongers get their way.
